The Music Managers Forum Canada Announces Jake Gold as Recipient of the 7th Annual Honour Roll Award

Award to be Presented on Friday March 22, 2013 at Bymark Restaurant as part of Canadian Music Week

Toronto, Ontario – October 31, 2012 – The Music Managers Forum Canada is pleased to announce that the recipient of the 7th Annual MMF Canada Honour Roll Award is Jake Gold of The Management Trust. The MMF Honour Roll Award is presented each year to recognize outstanding achievements and excellence in Canadian and International Artist Management. Gold joins former honourees Bernie Finkelstein, Bruce Allen, Ray Danniels, Sam Feldman, Terry McBride and Larry Wanagas in receiving this prestigious award.

Jake Gold grew up in Toronto where he sang in Top 40 bands in his teens. After spending a couple of years in LA doing lighting design, he returned to Toronto to become the tour manager for a band called Hot Tip. When Hot Tip became The Purple Hearts, they asked Gold to manage them, and he’s been a manager ever since.

In 1981, Gold began his career in Management. In 1986, he started The Management Trust Ltd. with Allan Gregg, where he transformed The Tragically Hip into national superstars.  He has since become known as one of Canada’s most well-known and respected artist managers.

Gold was recognized by the annual Canadian Music Industry Awards as Manager of the Year on three separate occasions (1991, 1993, 1994) and has been a member of the JUNO Awards Television and Talent committee since the 2003 awards broadcast in Ottawa-Gatineau. In 2009, Gold was elected to the board of CIMA (CIRPA) and was recently elected again to Vice-Chairman for CIMA. He is also a board member for the MMF Canada (Music Managers Forum Canada) and sits on the advisory board of the OMDC.

Additionally, Gold is in demand for his industry expertise and has been either moderator or panelist at Australia’s Pacific Music Conference, Pollstar’s Concert Industry Consortium, Vancouver’s NewMusicWest, CMJ, SXSW and both Canadian Music Week and North By Northeast in Toronto. He has also been a keynote speaker at the Canadian Organization of Campus Activities conference and was the co-chair of Canadian Music Week for 2008.

Gold’s devotion to music and art is matched by a strong focus on charity events and organizations. He was responsible for producing the War Child concert in Winnipeg, which drew crowds upwards of 100,000 people and raised over $400,000 for War Child Canada. He continues to donate his time to War Child and other various charities.

Gold is still very much active in management, currently managing the careers of Adam Cohen and Crash Karma, as well as music producers Doc McKinney, Moe Berg, Russell Broom, Terry Brown and Laurence Currie. He is also the Executive Vice-President of Entertainment Business Affairs.
