FACTOR, The Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings, was founded in 1982 by CHUM Limited, Moffat Communications and Rogers Broadcasting Limited, in conjunction with the Canadian Independent Record Producers Association (CIRPA) and the Canadian Music Publishers Association (CMPA). Standard Broadcasting merged its Canadian Talent Library (CTL) development fund with FACTOR’s in 1985.
As a private non-profit organization, FACTOR is dedicated to providing assistance toward the growth and development of the Canadian independent recording industry. The foundation administers contributions from sponsoring radio broadcasters as well as two components of the Department of Canadian Heritage’s Canada Music Fund to support the Canadian music industry. FACTOR has been managing federal funds since the inception of the Sound Recording Development Program in 1986 (now known as the Canada Music Fund Council).
Support is provided to Canadian recording artsists, songwriters, managers, labels and distributors through various programs which all aid in the development of the industry. Whether an artist is looking to record a demo, full length sound recording, market and promote an already existing album or showcase and tour domestically and internationally, funding is available. FACTOR supports many facets of the infrastructure which must be in place in order for artists and Canadian labels to progress into the international arena.

World Vision's Artist Associates Program partners with touring artists who are supportive of international development.
Through the Artist Associates Program, artists use their platform to promote World Vision's overseas work and encourage their audience to support a child in need, especially those living in HIV/AIDS-prevalent areas. In return, World Vision provides tour support to help artists cover tour costs. It's a win-win situation for everybody. If this tour support assists artists to get on the road, they are able to use their talents as a platform to help children in need. Caring and creativity join forces to make a tangible, lasting difference.
As one of Canada's leading NGOs, they are supported by over 500 000 Canadians, most of whom sponsor a child overseas. They are also one of the leading NGOs that will remain in Haiti for the extensive and long-term rebuilding plan.
The artists they partner with include Daniel Lanois, the late Oscar Peterson, Blind Boys of Alabama, Soweto Gospel Choir and many others including Independent artists. Sarah McLachlan and Bono had their first overseas experiences with World Vision and continue to support their work.
They work with artists that do a minimum of 15 concerts per year in Canada (this includes international artists doing shows in Canada too!). These artists have a suitable image and message to partner with one of Canada's largest charities.
